Default E-locker question

I've got the 3.5 eco 4X2 with the e-locker. My wife drives it more than me. Last week, we were driving together and I decided to point out again that she should never drive with that on. We are unlikely to have any reason to, but it's nice to know it's there. My understanding that driving with that on, unless needed, will destroy the diff and/or other stuff pretty quickly. And we have kids who might find a way to turn the **** some time with the car off--it is kind of a play thing for them. Anyway, I turned the **** on while idling because I expected a loud alarm and crazy flashing strobe in my eye. All I noticed was a little amber symbol on the dash--as noticeable as a speck of dust on my windshield. Is that all you get?

When I turn my e-locker on a disco ball comes down from the headliner and sync auto searches the USB for "Le Freak"

j/k, nope, nothing more than a small light in the center cluster display. BTW, the e-locker auto disengages over a certain speed. Don't use it on dry pavement, don't drive around with it on in slick conditions either. Your rear end will want to pass up your front end.

I have the elocker also and use it all the time in the winter. When at a stop light or sign and the road is slick with a slight up angle. It will kick off at 20mph I think. Just don't turn corners with it engaged. I used it today in ST Louis because the roads are wet and every time I went to take off my tires spun I turned it on the next two lights and no spinning. I would suggest you take it out and play a bit so you understand how it works, so it is easier to explain to the wife on when and how to use it.

I get the flashing lights and hologram of Robot swing his arms saying " Danger Will Robinson, Danger!"

It will not hurt it to run on dry pavement unless you do it constantly while turning at slow speeds (sub 20 mph as stated above) but why would you? You don't want to turn from a stop onto a slick road quickly or you could swap ends but does come in handy for pulling those bushes the wife wants gone and getting that @&%$ inlaw out of the ditch. Also helps get yourself out of a jam so said Inlaw wont have to hellp you out.
What the guys above say, try it out.

EDIT: My 06 chevy had the G80 locker that would engage when it sensed slippage in a rear tire but it was very inconsistent. At work I would pull out of my parking spot (employee parking was gravel) and then back up to the building (turning) and the tires would chirp like crazy because the locker had engaged. Other times it would spin the tires at a stop light and the locker would not engage until I let up on the gas. I like our E-locker much better!

This made me laugh. The locker should only be used in off road situations. On wet roads the E-LSD works pretty good. I tend to think of it as the **** of last resort.

It's meant for getting unstuck or not getting stuck. Think boat launch ramp or steep muddy or snowy road. It's definitely not meant for use on road.

It's just a real 2x4... not a 1x4 lol!

It will disengage at a certain speed. Don't worry about breaking something. You will probably notice it if you do a wide turn on low speeds. Just disengage it. Not as dangerous as driving with the 4x4 engaged on dry roads, for sure!
