Default DTE: Normal vs Tow?

My DTE display shows no difference between the normal and tow modes. I towed 250 miles and the DTE shows the the remaining milage based on the towing mpg when I return to the normal mode.

I have switched it back and forth and cannot figure out how to show DTE to show the current mode. Is here really a difference in the two modes?

Can't remember where I read this, but my understanding is that the DTE calculation is based on the fuel consumed during the previous 500 miles. So, at least initially, there wouldn't be much of a change.

If you reset all trip and average fuel readings then fill up and there will be a big difference. I recently did this because I could not see the big numbers everyone was posting about 500+ miles to empty with the 36 gallon tanks.

I also searched in the manual and it does not do into detail about what the two modes are for.

When I use normal it shows average fuel from beginning of time on DTE after fill up.
When I use towing it shows current mileage shown on trip one on DTE after fill up.

As I can't find anything in the manual there may be other rules or calculations that go into the two modes.

I think it changes back but I'm not sure it takes 500+ miles to do it. I pulled my 8,000+ trailer and was getting about 7 mpg. After dropping it off and 75 miles later and filling up the tank, it still showed my DTE being like 300 (with the 36 gallon tank). A day or two later the DTE was showing back in the 500's and I know I didn't put anywhere near 100 miles on it since the fill up.

@Damian Cantu , how does your post with no words, and just a picture, relate to a 5 year old thread discussing DTE for towing?
