I use it every time I climb into the bed when the tailgate is down. With the tailgate up I frequently use a hitch-mounted step.

Nope wish I did not have it. Just makes the gate heaver and I never use it. I would rather have the amp research one.

I was just thinking if I could remove it and get a new gate cap to cover up the hole. I wonder if all the gates are the same and I could pull it out and put a full cap back on???

Maybe you could swap your tailgate with someone who wants one, but didn't get it, if you live close?

LOL. Ok, guess it is pretty obvious that the tailgate step is a hit. I figured it was but just wondered what you owners had to say about it in the real world.

Kendive, sorry, but since you don't seem to like anything about your truck I have to take it with a grain of salt

Don't have to be sorry. I just don't use the tailgate step. I think I opened it one time just to see what it was all about. I have always owned trucks without them so I guess just use to not using it. I will most like buy a amp research step and install it to use. That seems way more practical to me.

As for the truck. I like it I just don't like the issues that are going on with it. Most of them have been taken care of other than the transfer case noise.

I think the two styles serve different functions, and frankly I'd like to have both. My truck doesn't have one. Had a loaner for a week and thought it was great. If anyone has one that doesnt like it, and it happens to be magnetic metalic, I'd be more than happy to swap.

At first I thought this idea to be far superior to the GM rear bumper design. I have to admit that after testing out the GM twins, that bumper step is pretty damn easy to use. Maybe not as good overall as the Ford but for quick access it seems like the simple design might be better.

Coming from a Chevy Avalanche (which has had the bumper step since 2002), I really missed having a step there on the corner.

For those of you who didn't get the factory option, the AMP Research BedStep is a great 3rd party option. $200 with no tax and free delivery when I bought mine. Easy to install. Handy as Hell. Sturdy. Couldn't be simpler to deploy or retract. Not hideous. Works with tailgate up or down.

I bought my truck used, and did not care one way or the other, but my next truck will have one.

I use it all the time (MX bikes) and it's one of the main selling points why I chose this truck over any other.
