E-locker diff is only for getting out of a temporary stick like where one rear tire might be on solid pavement or gravel and the other down in a muddy ditch or similar and only for going straight and auto kicks out at, I believe, 20 mph. Very useful when backing up a steep hill with loose gravel or going up a steep driveway covered with ice. Yes, excellent when towing and gotta get going on wet grass.

question do you then drive with your elocker - in locked mode during the winter? I test drove one but I don't recall but are you able to make turns with the elocker enabled? Only time I have issue - cold wet - turning right most often - bit of wheel spin. No drama but a touch of wheel spin on occasion. cold wet, or of course on ice. I just didn't see the e-locker as being that useful to me - now towing might be a different matter.
Got to ask - is that legal in Canada? What brand of tire and who does it for you. As far as I know - down here - you won't find anyone that will recut, "sip" a tire for you. I ask because I've not heard of that in years.
biggest advantage of winter tires is the compound changes - not only more pliable in colder temps, but also much more grip in all directions in those temps.
That said last winter I ended up driving my daily driver 460HP, RWD sedan on ice, in town with A/S tires on it. It worked ok, sure, but thank fully that's 2 days out of the year here. It's not fun, mostly due to the panic of those around you.

Large tire shop here locally does it.....lots of semi truck guys get there tires siped as well.
No idea why it would be illegal....siping only goes down a ways and does not jepardize tire whatsoever,as long as there is enuff tread depth they will sipe any tire.
It is the only shop I know that does siping tho
