Need is a strong word lol
I run 'All-Weather' (ie. 3-peak rated) with about 150lbs of sand. I like how it handles and feels like this, I find it reacts very consistently,etc. For our weather conditions I find it is the compromise that I like the best (every tire choice you will make is a compromise of some form).
We typically get a very dry cold, very cold temps, and lots of deep snow. So for me I prefer a bit more aggressive tread design vs a tire that is good on ice/compact snow as we get that less often.
I will also use these as 'summer tires' once they get worn down and buy new tires for the winter. Works as a good cycle for me.

You have a new 4x4 vehicle with brand new tires. Why go drop money on snow tires?
I've driven in any condition you can imagine living in MA. If you're going to get a set of good all terrains. I had BFG A/T on my 2000 Cherokee and they chewed through snow and ice. But I think you will be fine.

Since I have a regular cab with 8 foot bed. I added 210 pounds of sand bags over the rear axle.
I've been driving for 40 years here in the hill country of Eastern Ohio never have bought dedicated snow tires. I'm not doubting snow tires would improve handling, but for me not needed.
I need to read my owner's manual and see if traction control automatically shuts off in 4 wheel drive. I hate that feature as bad as the auto stop and start!

Roudan, you need to say where you're located, and what kind of conditions you expect to drive in? Southern Ontario with all it's ice, freezing rain, wet snow, etc is completely different than the dry fluffy snow of the northern prairies. Also, check the highway laws, as some mountain highways that lead to ski hills may require snow tires or chains installed for you to legally drive on the road.
I've always bought snow tires, both while living in Southern Ontario and now living in suburb Vancouver. Makes a huge difference in icy conditions. I wear sandals and light running shoes in the summer, and boots and heavy hikers in the winter, and I do the same for the "shoes" that my vehicles wear.

Dedicated winter tires are almost free. IOW you're now spreading the tire wear over two sets which will delay your need to replace the summer tires. (the only extra expense is installation).
What your getting is superior winter performance and a huge margin of safety. (especially for defensive driving maneuvers because there are idiots that drive in adverse conditions that lack the basic skills)
I will never be without dedicated winter tires. Right now I have Blizzacks on my F150 but use Nokians on my CX-5.

For me it's a small investment for safety. I've seen how well they perform and will never make the compromise.

Plus if you have winter tires you can usually get a discount through your insurance company.
You could lie and say you have them, but if you get into an accident, and they find out you don't have them, it could give them a reason not to cover you.
