Default Did Ford Use The Right Oil In My F150?

I just took my 2017 F150 2.7 EcoBoost in for the 20K maintenance service.

They change the oil every 10K (like the gauge and manual recommends) but I’m wondering what oil they’re supposed to put in since I’m reading conflicting stuff online.

They used Motocraft SAE 5W-20, but for some reason I’m reading online that people recommend 5W-30. Which is it?

What does your Owner's Manual say?

Unless I looked it up wrong, the online manual lists:
Recommended motor oil (U.S.): Motorcraft® SAE 5W-30 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP

Bingo. The turbo engines get 5W-30, the NA engines get 5W-20. Right in the Owner's Manual.

Looks to me that the wrong oil was used. My sons 3.5NA uses the 5W 20

Thanks. On my phone the online manual won’t pull up properly. I called and and the guy said they will replace it with the correct oil. Do you think I could have possibly messed up my engine?

From miles 0-10,000 I used the oil that came from the factory (I assume that was the correct oil). For miles 10,000-20,000 my old receipt shows they also used the wrong 5W-20 oil.

I have a follow up appointment next week because I was in a rush today due a doctors appointment...I caught the mistake after I left.

I’m getting my Door Handles fixed next week (from the recall) and he also mentioned I also have an oil drip pan leak that will be fixed next week too...would it be more harmful to drive another week with fresh 5W-20 or should I go back tonight and have them fix it immediately?

I’m really hoping they didn’t mess up my engine (or anything else).

Your engine is fine in terms of the oil used. It should cause no problems.

Unless you were towing 9000 lbs up a mountain in the summer or drag racing, I doubt any harm was done..

Please identify the dealer that is so stupid they can't put the right oil in. This is why I never take vehicles to a dealer for anything but warranty repairs.

Could anything else be affected? Luckily I drive mostly highway miles (no tow) and don’t accelerate too quickly...it’s my first truck so I’m trying to treat her right

They’re the largest dealer in the Southeast...other than this screw up they’ve been absolutely great.

I’m still getting Birthday cards (over a year later) hand signed from everyone I dealt with. Hopefully they’ll make it right and add a credit on my account (or something) for my 30K visit.
