Default Delayed starter

I've had my 2016 F150 for a few months now. I've noticed that when I shut off the engine for a short period of time, say 5 or 10 minutes just to jump out to get a coffee, for example, when I turn the key to restart, there is a noticeable 1 or 2 second delay before the starter operates. It is the 5L V8 if that makes a difference.

Is this normal?

It freaked me out the first time it did it, but now I hardly notice it. It seems to me that a few times when I was releasing the key, the starter stayed engaged until the engine caught, so it seems to me that this might be something intentional.

You don't have to hold the key to start,,,, just turn it and let go,,,, this tells the truck you want to start the motor and it will do the rest for you..
