I have the Deezee installed on my truck. I would have rather had the oem style assist that hides behind the tail light, but I think I only paid $25 for the Deezee and it works really well. I think the install took about 10 minutes. I use my truck to pull a trailer and do not usually load things in the bed. So having the piston and everything exposed shouldn't be a problem for me. I have never used the oem assist so I couldn't speak about that.

Plenty of posts about the OEM, including the "hidden" feature. Lots of posts about the Deezee for 2014 and prior, little reason to use it on 2015+ since buying the pieces of the OEM is nearly the same price.

I have one and love it. $25 delivered in 2 days, installed in 15 minutes while drinking a beer. Once it's installed, you will never notice it, so the 'hidden' benefit of the OEM is over-rated. With the man-step making the tailgate heavy for my kids, this is my favorite 'under $50' upgrade...

I installed the deezee and my buddy has the factory one. Honestly can't tell a difference in operation. I can see the strut on mine but is tucked away and don't even notice it. I paid $25 and it was a simple install. Here are some pics for you, really comes down to if you care about seeing the strut or not.

On my truck, all the parts were there except for the strut. Cost me only $42 instead of $105 for the whole kit (Canadian dollars). Check if the hinge lever is there before you buy the DeeZee, getting the strut from the dealer is not much more expensive than the DeeZee.

I have it and I like it. It works fine and is very easy to install. If it ever fails, the brackets are in place to pop on a new unit in seconds. I get the preference for the OEM, but I guess I'm a bit lazy :-)
