Default Deep Sleep Mode keeps activating

I’ve got a 2018 lariat 502a with the 2.7. I’m getting a message via my FordPass app that my truck has been going into deep sleep mode. I’m getting these messages just about everyday for the past 3-4 months. My cell app features then won’t work with the truck as it turns off the modem. I took it into the dealer before the holidays and they were baffled and reset/reprogrammed (pcm?) a computer and asked me to monitor and see if it’s still happening. Well, it is. I looked into this and seems like it goes into this mode when the battery voltage is low. I have been checking the battery voltage over the past couple weeks and it’s consistently measuring between 11.84-11.94. When I start the truck the voltage reads 14.6-14.7. My start stop has also not been working for months.

Is my battery toast? If so, is it normal for a battery to go this quickly? Truck was built august of 2018.

note: these errors started happening a few weeks after I had installed a dash cam. I noticed a couple times that the dash cam would sometimes not turn off when I turned the truck off, which I thought was strange I.e. Not sure why it was still getting power the truck was off and locked up. Generally the dash cam did shut off though when I turned the truck off. I have since taken out the dachcam (weeks ago) and have gone on many longer drives which should have charged the battery but I am still having issues.

From my experience at the dealership I generally have to point them in a direction so I’m not going back numerous times til they figure it out. Any help from this community would be great!

Unplug the Dash cam. If it is not shutting off it will draw the battery down and cause the issues you are having. As for a battery going bad in the first two/three years the answer is it happens a lot. Deep Sleep mode is the system shutting off certain features to save the battery so it will start.

I agree with above, eliminate the dash cam for a test. Fully charge battery, and see what happens. There are many threads that the batteries only last a few years tops.

Your battery needs to be charged. Fully charge the battery. Get a Battery Tender Plus.

Then check the voltage after a drive, waiting 30 minutes. Or, get it load tested.

Thanks for the replies

I have unplugged the dash cam (did that a few weeks ago) and it’s still been low voltage even after quite a few longer drives (1-2 hour round trips). I would have thought a few longer drives would have charged it back up? Is that not the case? I need to hook it up to a battery charger?

Either that, or it's defective.

I would try a battery charger/maintainer and if that doesn't do it, you're probably up for a new battery.

I'd also look more closely at what was entailed when you installed the dash cam. When you say you unplugged it, what did you specifically unplug and what other connections were made as part of the installation process? The camera may be powered off, but there could be other points to consider.

I had the same issue. It turned out that the battery had a bad cell and was replaced under warranty.

Are you by chance parking your truck in a metal garage / building ? I had this problem with my '19 from the day I bought it. Come to find out....it only happened when I left it parked in my metal garage for over 24 hours. I went out of town on business for a few days...and sleep mode never engaged. So I did a little experimenting and sure enough....it was because of parking in the metal garage....the wifi couldn't communicate.
