Default Dealer uses 5w20 oil in 2016 3.5 Ecoboost?

Anyone's dealer put 5w20 oil in their 3.5 ecoboost? The manual says 5w30 and so does the oil filler cap. When I picked up the truck I noticed the service invoice said they used 5w20. I questioned the SA because I thought 5w30 was the spec. He assured me that 5w20 was correct.

I see that 5w20 is the Ford spec for the 5.0. I hope my dealer knows the difference.

Hmmm... I would make them change it. My dealer has windows in the waiting area to see the shop. I would be watching like a hawk and make sure they drain it and use the proper oil.

A3.5 eb engine requires 5w30 oil if your dealer tells you 5w20 is acceptable he is full of s**t and blowing smoke. Being a direct injection fuel system fuel dilution and viscosity break down are normal plus the under load bearing pressure is much more and requires a heavier oil. I would talk to service manager and request they do it over and do it right. My dealer accidentally put 5w20 in my 2.7 [new tech on the oil rack] I brought it to there attn. they promptly did it over and gave me 2 free service coupons for my trouble.
Note small family dealership in AZ.

I'm pretty sure 5w30 is the spec for good reason. Everything is going to the 20 weights to save fuel except for high performance and forced induction. Almost everything uses 0w or 5w20 now except the hellcat, vette, gt350, ecoboost, and a few others. The high specific output eb's have higher ring and bearing loads that need a stronger film strength offered by the thicker oil.

If a SA told me that 20 grade oil was correct when 30 grade is the OEM spec, I would head to the Service Manager in great haste.

This seems to be a common issue with dealers, and not just Ford.

I looked up the part # listed on my receipt for the oil used at my first oil change, and saw it was Mobil conventional bulk oil, not the synthetic blend I was expecting (and specified in the owners manual). To make things even weirder, the service rep told me it was full synthetic, since the little reminder sticker they put on your windshield said "Mobil 1". I only went there since they included a tire rotation. At least they got the level right, I'll give them that much.

Mine specifies 5W20 and I use 5W30 instead. The 20 oil is junk. If you notice, Ford uses 5W50 in the track pack Mustangs because they know that when you beat on the engine, the 20 weight can't hack it. Since we drive trucks that tow and haul, I want a better oil that can stand up to the heat. 5W20 is like water. It's only used solely for fuel economy and CAFE ratings, not longevity.

Never had dealer change oil in any of my trucks. I use 5w-30, when I change my oil...

I had dealer do one change. They didn't have dipstick inserted fully and oil was over full. Needless to say I'm not going back.

Ford has been using 20 weight oil for many of their engines for years now without adverse affects assuming the engine is used under normal conditions. There's plenty of UOA's that also show 20 weight oils work just fine.
