dealer gps tracker skam
Is it standard practice for Ford dealers to install GPS tracking devices on vehicles they're selling and then add that device to the invoice to the tune of $1500? They then say that they can't uninstall the tracker so its all part of the deal. BTW they can remove the tracker. These trackers are widely available on the internet for $50 > $200.

No, if the dealer wants to put it in the cost is on them. I suspect they do it in order to track vehicles that default on payment so they can tow it.

Is it for theft or because you are a financial risk?

Unfortunately I already bought the vehicle (F150). I wasn't that aware when I purchased and didn't use the tracking device for several months when it failed to operate properly. I then did some research on GPS devices including calling the device manufacturer.
BTW, I have excellent credit and only financed half of the total price. I'm now asking for a refund of the $1500 for both device failure and failure of the dealership to disclose that this device was optional and vastly overpriced. The dealer is stone walling me.
Anybody has a suggestion on how to get my $$ back?

So you bought the vehicle for the agreed upon price, and now months later you want them to refund $1,500 that you paid?
Not a chance in hell they'll agree to that. I wouldn't either. You negotiated a price. Had you worked from invoice on the truck, you should have seen what they added, in this case $1,500 for GPS tracking. Need to read the lines very carefully, and ensure that the final number is what you think it's supposed to be.
As to disabling it, I'd insist on it, or simply cut the power wires yourself.
