Default dealer doesn't know TBC

I was going to keep the TBC off my old truck, but when my wife saw how much better the factory install looked she said I had permission to add it. Of course, this is after its built and 6 days from delivery. I called the dealer to order a factory one. My sales Representative said they can get it for me but can't install it? I have the tow package ,harness is wired etc. My question is, has anyone installed a TBC on a 2015? I was under the assumption it was plug and play. From what I have read on other threads it has to be programmed by Ford. My sales Representative is telling me that is for the older model's, not the new ones! Does that make sense?

Typically, the aftermarket TBCs are plug and play, connecting to a receptacle harness bundled up somewhere under the dash. The challenge is to find a mounting spot that doesn't look messy yet is still accessible. But I have no info on retrofitting an OEM one.

Check the eTrailer offering:

For those of us that aren't up on the short forms, what is a TBC?
Just followed the link. Got it!

Sorry about that. Just got finished watching a YouTube video and that's what they called it.

Default tbc

I talked to my dealer about doing the same and they said it shouldn't be an issue updating the computer even if I do the physical install myself. you can find genuine ford parts on amazon and ebay usually cheaper than the dealer can sell them to you. from what I understand is that the part also comes with instruction for the dealer part of the install. you could probably contact one of the sellers that have a better knowledge of people doing exactly what we have in mind for clarification.

Many folks with 2011-2014s have installed Ford's TBC themselves.
A lot cheaper that way.
But they then had to get the computer flashed by the dealer for it to be recognized.

Hopefully you can do the same with the 2015s.

I don't know about '15's, all the trucks from I believe '09 to '14 take the same brake controller. They're all a 15 minute job to install and can be done by anyone. They all have to flashd by the dealer, another 15 minute job. The controller will actually work without being flashed by the dealer, but the brake info won't show on the display screen. I'm not sure about the anti-sway function. The '15 may be different, I don't know.

Dealers are a little dishonest about installing and flashing the controllers. Most want to charge an hour to install and an hour to flash them. The most expensive I saw was $250 to do both. I installed mine. I checked with several dealers and finally found one that flashed mine for $36. Good luck.

This is correct.

I had it installed on my 2011 (in 2011) at the dealer. Cost $100 and had to be reflashed.

Do you mind giving me the name of your dealer? I notice you are in the South Florida area too. My dealer doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling about this.
