Default Data Link/Obd2

Hello everyone,

So, I was replacing my Data link/Obd2 port under my steering wheel. When I installed the new one my dash lit up like ww3. 4x4 fault, front camera malfunction, airbag light etc.. Tossed an *** ton of DTCs. I put the old one back in and everything is perfect, No DTCs showing now etc. .. What am I missing here? I figured it would just be a straight forward plug/play swap. Does something need programed? Its the same PN and I purchased it new from my local dealer. Any thoughts? This is a 2015 with the 5,0.

I ran into this too. My plug had gotten corroded from salt water in my boots or off my dog. Turns out you’re supposed to have someone download info off the old module and put it on the new one prior to installing it. Don’t ask me how you can do that if the old one is bad but that’s what I was advised by the manufacturer of an aftermarket module.

Before replacing the old GWM (Gateway Module) you need to download the As-built PIDs with FORScan or other scan tool. After installing the new module, the As-built PIDs must be progammed into the new module and a module restart performed. Ford calls this PMI (Programmable Module Installation).

Well that makes sense, I'll have to look into doing this. I figured as much. Thanks for that info.

FORScan is a wonderful tool for programming many of the modules in your truck and performing all sorts of diagnostics. See the sticky thread at the top of this section. Read Post #1. If you are going to work on your truck, get FORScan.
