I followed this thread (post #6 and #13) when I wired in my dash camera (blackvue with power magic pro) to get power from the passenger side fuse box.

I didn't want to have to take apart the steering column on my brand new truck. I have been trying fuses. I found one that works fine with while the truck is running but not one that works while it's off.

You are only removing the cover to access the ignition switch area. The steering column stays in place. It really is pretty simple.

Removing the cover is really simple. It is alot easier then the 12th gen. I would remove the cover 20 times to hook up to these wires before attempting once on the previous generations.

I was scared too. Didnt want to break any of the clips on my 2017 however i am glad i watched the video and did it this way.

This is my setup for my dash cam - Lukas QViA AR790 2ch (very similar to BlackVue DR650S)
Fuse #35 (5 amp) is controlled by ACC
Fuse #32 (10 amp) Constant power

I used the same fuses for my Blackvue DR650S. Works great.

Did you have to modify these fuse taps?
I am having a hard time finding ones that it. As a last resort I may order another batch and shave them down.

Since I have posted quite a bit about dash cameras, how great they are, with recommendations, etc, over my time here, I thought I'd find a relatively recently posted in thread about them to say

Do not buy a Thinkware dash camera

I've had like fifteen different dash cameras by now, and the Thinkware is by far the biggest PITA to try to use. WHen you go on the app store or play store and see a 1.9/5 average review for the Thinkware apps...it's probably only that high because of shills.

Apparently the Thinkware app flat out doesn't even work on Android 12, is spotty at best on Android 11, doesn't consistently work with tablets (including not consistently working with my iPad Mini that is up to date OS with cellular), and just randomly fails and drops with a "sorry we have a bug the app closed lol" (paraphrased) message.

Why is this important? Because you must use the app to change any settings or to format the card. There is no screen, there are precious few buttons with precious few control options on the cam itself, without the app working properly, it's really close to being a paperweight.

Do not buy if you value your sanity

Do buy

Old post, I know.

@Firerunner I saw in a YouTube video somebody mention polarity (orientation) of the fuse tap. Is it correct that the fuse tap has to be installed the same way you have it and not the other way around so it works properly? I thought I saw someone else's post and it seemed to have the wire coming out on the right side instead of the left side like your picture.

Also, is this the same setup for a 2015 XLT? Same fuses, same fuse tap orientation?
