I keep my dash lights on lowest setting.
Once in a while (monthly?) I start up and the dash lights are on the highest setting.
Totally random.
Any idea why?

Mine have done that too, and sometimes the dash vs. the center sync screen get out of sequence where one will think it's night and the other thinks its day. Rather than adjusting them all again, I found that if I just turn the headlights to the off position then back to the automatic position, it corrects everything. I think it has something to do with the sensors that determine when to turn the headlights on and dim the dash/screen.
That's as far as I've gotten with it and cycling the headlight **** is easy enough to do for me.

My guess would be potentially an undercharged battery (modules like peak power), or possible a less than ideal ground. Another guess also given I seem to recall you doing extra stereo mods, maybe a slight voltage flicker, seems the default would be full illumination. Good luck, I hate electrical gremlins...

The dash vs. center SYNC screen out of sequence has happened a few times as well. It figures it out after either a couple minutes or it switches all the way as it's getting darker and the other catches up.
I'll try the AUTO-OFF-AUTO cycle, then I need to turn on the fogs which disengage when you turn the dial OFF.
Glad to hear it's a bug in the system, not an impending car-B-Q.

Never had that happen. The only thing I've notices is when the battery has been disconnected, my ambient lighting resets to its lowest (off) setting, and some time later when I notice I have to adjust it back to where I want it. My dash lights and Sync screen don't change from where I set them.
