dark or police mode question
I've read somewhere about a dark or police dark mode. I've got a '16 coming and want to be able to kill the lights on door opening when I'm in a campground. I'm curious if this is switched on by the dealer, do I have control of when the lights are on or off when exiting the truck? Or can I adjust them through Sync?

There is a button on the top center console where the rear slide/sunglass holder is and it kills the interior lights when the doors opened...not sure if that's what you may be thinking of

If you want the tail lights, third/bed lights and front markers to stay off it will have to be programmed at the dealer. The interior lights you can with the button above the rearview mirror.

What I'd like to do is be able to turn off the exterior lights when opening a door in a campground. When we arrive after dark, I'd rather not burn out retinas from the headlights glowing . Also, we get out sometimes with an astronomy group and any extra light ruins night vision and is a great way not to be asked back.
I'm hoping to find out if the dealer sets it up in the system, I have the ability to turn it on and off as needed. Total shutting off the lights at night all the time would cause other issues when stumbling around in the dark getting in and out of the vehicle.

No, you can't have it both ways. Either dark mode is on, or it's off. Dealer does it.

So if you have the dealer program for the dark side does it override the interior light button in the overhead console or can you still decide when you want them on or off.

Police Dark mode will cause all lights to not come on when you unlock and lock the doors. You can get a kit and make this switchable if you really need it that bad.

On my 2016 dark mode overrides the interior lights no matter what position the overhead center button is. The button itself does glow if you turn it on so you can find the other ones.
They can only be switched on manually. The key pad light and interior ambient lighting come on when an unlocked door is opened. If locked the parking lights flash when unlocked.
Open an unlocked door and the ambient lighting is just right. I hate the key pad lighting up as it is the only exterior light in this mode.
This is done with an IDS and the dealer may charge an hour for the 5 minute job, $100.00 or so.
