Cute little trucks

we've hauled deep freezers, lumber, boat engine, firewood, recycling and more in a suzuki hatchback, and (not trolling, just stating fact) that car was more reliable than any ford truck we've had. Sold the car, removed enough junk from the nooks and crannies to level the backseat of an scab f150 to the windows. Gotta have a can fit attitude man :
what baffles me is the people who buy a full size truck, not even necessarily a short box, and will haul a trailer smaller than the truck box cause they don't want to "beat up the truck". Now that is the head scratcher.

Not a troll, sorry for the inflammatory tone
tone and all kidding aside, I just got done unpacking the 6.5 and pulling a 25 foot travel trailer with it for the long weekend. I could not have done it in a 5.5 bed with a family of 5.
My 2002 F250 with the 8 foot bed is sometimes insufficient for single trips to the dump with a large family. To each his own and whatever works for you but I am truly shocked at the amount of short bed trucks on the road. Clearly there is a market for them but I would think a SUV is a better choice in the long run for folks who don't use the truck as a truck.
And for whoever wanted a pic of my truck..here u go.

To give a serious response to a ....whatever this is....Thread, I'll repeat something I've said before. If you only haul bricks or other items that will run out of weight capacity before space in even a 5.5', a 5.5' will do fine. If you haul, for instance, cotton stuffing, you want an 8' bed because you'll still run out of space before the truck is overloaded by weight. But, the 8' can still haul the same amount of bricks, whereas the 5.5' won't haul the same amount of cotton stuffing. As well, yes you can drop the tailgate and turn a 5.5' into a 7.5 (ish?) But drop the tailgate on an 8' and now you have 10'. For 8' items such as plywood, I'd rather just shut the tailgate and go on instead of having to tie it down. It's still 2.5' more any way you cut it. But, as stated time and again, maybe not everyone will ever need that 2.5'.
Some say that's what trailers are for, I have a truck to avoid the hassle of a trailer. If I wanted to use a trailer with a similar capacity to a long box pickup, a car could tow that and get a lot better gas mileage when not towing. Would also be a lot less convenient to park at work, stores, etc and when a load comes up unexpectedly when already gone out. A boat trailer or a 20' trailer that can carry far more than the truck box, that's different.
Personally, I have a 6.5, I have to make more trips than if I had an 8', but less than if I had a 5.5'. But I want either an 8' or else I might as well downsize to a smaller truck like a ranger next time around.

I’m not criticizing anyone else’s decisions though...

Atv and motorcycle in an suv? Don’t think so. Engine block, maybe, but a car axle sure would be a pain getting in and out, plus will undoubtedly mess up the upholstery. In fact, I fail to see any advantage at all of an suv for my purposes. I got what worked for me and it worked great! Now that I drive a mustang, I sure miss that little useless 5.5’ bed.

Edit: Some of his track runs:

one advantage is, with a suburban or the long version expedition, sans 3rd row, you have a similar amount of space as a 5.5' truck with the same passenger capacity, but fold/remove the 2nd row and you have roughly 8' of UNINTERRUPTED space, but should you need to haul 7-8 people instead (nine in the case of some suburbans), you can. Try that in ANY pickup truck, unless you have one of those custom 6 door builds. Well, you could probably fit at least 6 people in a 5.5' bed, but in 2018 I think you'd have colored lights in your mirror the second a cop spotted you on a road. Also, correct me if I'm wrong but can't you fold one side, but not the other of the back 2 rows on many suvs? That would mean I can haul, say, a 2x2x8 box of something, still close the tailgate, and still have room for at least 3 passengers plus driver.
A full size atv, yeah that won't fit in the Suv. A small bike might. But, an awful lot of other things can while still leaving some versatility for passenger space.
sounds like a screw 5.5' is the better option for you though for sure.
