Default Current gear display - random?

I've noticed that my current gear display is sometimes on, and sometimes off. I thought it originally only displayed if in 4A or 4H, but I tested that theory today and it still was displayed in 2H....then other days it is not displayed at all in 2H.

Anybody know why this display is sometimes on/sometimes off?

Is yours always on/off?

My old 11 XLT they would appear only when i was in manual shift. On my new Lariat I've also noticed the gears show randomly also. I was thinking about this just yesterday.

If they are currently not showing, and I switch to manual, they will instantly display, but then go away after I switch back to drive.

Other times I will be in drive, and they will remain on, switch to manual and back, and still remain on?

If they are not showing all you have to do is press the + on your shifter and they will reappear. If you press + again you can hide them.
