Crack in windshield - Safelite or dealer?
Hi y'all,
I have a 2018 STX Super Crew, noticed a chip in the windshield that has spread to either side. I did an online quote from Safelite, it comes out to $370. Am I safe to assume that's the best option, the dealer will cost me a fortune?
Is there a specific windshield I need, I just quoted the one with the Ford Logo on top?
Also, I have read thru other posts saying you can get the plant decal sticker again, hopefully I will be able to.

Some dealers outsource it, so you could find out who they use, and check if you have glass coverage with insurance.

I seem to recall, there is a a partial bumper to bumper coverage for glass, either for that term or 6 months/6000 miles.
Doesn't cost anything to check your documents, obviously calling a dealer asking, will likely get a resounding laugh/no response, so check the official FordMoCo documents, concerning warranty coverages/limitations.

Actually I was right, are you sure it wasn't a small stress crack initially that you never saw until it grew, to include what appears like stone chips...after the fact?
The following is copy paste from 2018 Ford warranty PDF
Damage Caused by Use and/or the Environment
The New Vehicle Limited Warranty does not cover surface rust,
deterioration and damage of paint, trim, upholstery, and other
appearance items that result from use and/or exposure to the elements.
You, as the owner, are responsible for these items. Some examples are:
• dings, dents
• cuts, burns, punctures or tears
• road salt
• tree sap, bird and bee droppings
• windstorm, lightening, hail
• earthquake
• freezing, water or flood
• stone chips, scratches (some examples are on paint and glass)
• windshield stress cracks. However, limited coverage on windshield
stress cracks will be provided for the first 12 months or 12,000 miles
(which ever occurs first), even though caused by use and/or exposure
to the elements.

That is too big to repair I'm pretty sure. Gonna need a new windshield. If you do Safelite, I'd go to their actual shop and watch them while they do it. You don't want some clown doing it out in the parking lot at work. We're better off now that we have aluminum bodies, but on steel body cars, they tend to scrape off the paint in the windshield frame and half-*** fix it or not fix it at all. I've found rust there on pretty new cars that had multiple windshield replacements. Because they don't care. It's not their car. Pull up a chair and watch them work. If they say you can't, go somewhere else.
As far as the glass itself, make sure it's acoustic glass and preferably FORD OEM if you want to keep the logo in the center. No aftermarket will have that.

Why are there always a troll around, when someone offers up meaningful help? You obviously missed the ambiguity present, specifspecifically....
• stone chips, scratches (some examples are on paint and glass)
• windshield stress cracks. However, limited coverage on windshield
stress cracks will be provided for the first 12 months or 12,000 miles
(which ever occurs first), even though caused by use and/or exposure
to the elements.
Clearly those last two qualifiers are in direct conflict.
Also, there is no way, YOU nor I, NOR anyone else can definitively conclude the star in the middle of the crack happened prior, to the crack, ONLY an ASSUMPTION.
Nice try, indeed.
Assume much?
At least I provided information that is direct from Ford, and could lead to a savings to the OP, how exactly does your negative attitude, and assumptions help or add value to this thread?
