Cooling Seats issue and TSB feedback
#5071
Sometimes I notice mine seem cooler too. I'm fairly certain it's related to how sweaty I am. When I'm sweaty (wet) I notice the cool air more than when I'm dry, which makes sense. This includes my back as well so I know my seats are functioning properly.

Ventilated vs. cooling is reference to the technology used, not the effectiveness per se. If HVAC-like cooling was introduced into your seats you should expect far more than from just a ventilated seat... the F-150 was never cooled... they just used a marketing term to describe the technology that over promised and sadly under-delivered, especially in the factory 2015-17 TED design.....AZPLAT

For you guys with tims fix do you find the back seat cooling is not as good as seat bottom? Also do you notice at times the cooling is not as noticeable? This randomly happens to me and I'm wondering what it might be and why is happening. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it

Installed Tim's fix last week, and it's been 100 degrees here in South Texas. I'm consistently experiencing the same results as you, the back is not as cold as the bottom. I'd describe the bottom as cold and back as cool. But I don't regret doing the mod, it's definitely and improvement.

2018s
Anyone with a 2018 yet? Would be interested to know if they suffer the same cooling issues as the 2015-17s or if the seats have been re-engineered.
Thanks,

Wait til they are on the lot of go sit in one; ) honestly the only way the seat cooling will be good is if it's somehow tied into the ac system....wish there was a way to do that with the 2015 to 17s and somehow increase the strength of the airflow bc the ted airflow is really weak even on 3 bars

Thanks for posting it your update. I was planning on installing the fix, but if it isn't much of a difference here in San Antonio, then I'll pass. I have the same issue. Bottom is cold, back isn't.

OK. for those that don't know, let me sum it up for you. Tim's fix was NEVER INTENDED to increase the flow rate of air significantly.. it's function has always been to pull cooler air into the TED and, more importantly, GET RID OF the hot air produced by the TED... so you have 3 options
#1.. leave it alone if you have an early 2015, which doesn't have the TSB sock... this causes a dangerous buildup of hot air in the seatback.. it just keeps getting hotter and hotter. (worse than not having it on at all... cools for about 5 minutes, then gets hot)
#2.. leave it alone if you have a late 2015 and on... the TSB sock was probably put on at the factory... this helps to pull in cooler air from the cabin, but DOES NOT get rid of the hot air produced by the TED that is exhausted in the seat. (takes longer to get hot, but still does)
#3... install Tim's fix... it pulls cool air from under the seat, but more importantly, EXHAUSTS THE HOT AIR from your seat back.. it MAY help with the air flow if your sock collapsed, but other than that, the flow rate is the same. (you can leave it on for as long as you want, and the seat doesn't get hot)
I live outside of New Orleans, so I feel your pain when it comes to the heat.

I have lots of guys from down south that have had great luck with them. To be honest the majority of my kits are down there for obvious reasons. The guys up north do like the extra heat they get from the kits as well.

My analogy.... place a window air conditioner in the CENTER of a room vs. hanging the exhaust side outside a window..... you have to separate the intake from exhaust to get desired effect.
The syndrome of heat increase WAS broken by introducing the intake "sock", but it did nothing to address removing the TED exhaust from the seat cavity.... that is what Tim's fix does..... it constantly introduces cooler air to the TED while removing the hot exhaust air from the seat you are trying to get as cool as possible..... hence optimization of the TED design Ford employed in the 2015-17 seats!!
In addition his kit provides a more rigid intake duct that will not collapse, as some have reported with the "sock" solution..... AZPLAT
