Default Convenience key?

Can a key be made just to unlock the doors that is flat to keep in my wallet?
Second time I locked my keys in the truck 🤯
My 2019 is a fancied up base model and does not have FordPass remote unlock using my phone. Verified with Ford via emails after the first time😡
Suppose I could get a regular key fob and use a magnet box on the frame, worse case.

I know that you can add a keypad to the door. I don't know how much it costs. I use mine all the time. If I'm mowing or doing something where I'm wearing a t-shirt and shorts I'll just toss the keys on the floor, lock it up and let myself in with the keypad.

I think that would be more convenient and safer than a magnet.

I remember AAA used to make plastic emergency keys but I can't imagine they would still work in the age of the "smart" key.

I was gonna suggest the same as Shann. Back on my Mustang forum days, it was popular to get the accessory “keypad” and program it to the vehicle. I had a stick on one that I stuck inside my fuel door so it was hidden (for looks mostly). Worked great. But if that’s not your choice, I had a basic straight key cut for my 2020 truck that I leave in my garage toolbox. That basic key would be better for a magnetic underneath box vs a complete fob.

I didn't know that you could buy a base F-150 that didn't come with the door pillar key pad.

If that's something you are able to add easily, I HIGHLY recommend it.

That's one of the most brilliant/convenient features from Ford in my opinion, I used it everyday.

The cheap and easy alternative to the oem door pad. This is the same type I’ve used for my Mustang

I went to a locksmith and got a spare key made. It’s just a regular key. It’s kinda big to carry in your wallet.

You can hide it somewhere on the truck with Gorilla tape.

Mine was $125 and they programmed it and made sure it worked.

The dealership may be able to order one based on the VIN of your vehicle. Or check out your locksmith shops. They tend to be considerably cheaper than the Ford parts counter.
I don't think you'll have much luck at Ace Hardware unless you have a physical key with ridges they can duplicate, like the old days.

How is it that you are so good at locking your keys in? Your only vehicle without pushbutton and its easy to leave the key hanging in the ignition unlike with your other vehicles you just exit and run?
Obviously you always like the door from the interior button but what are you doing from the time you turn the vehicle off until you exit?

I had a friend lock my key in my truck TWICE. Her workflow was to always lock with the door panel button as she exited. Out of habit she locked my truck from the passenger side...and claimed she did not. later when I moved her and she drove my truck, she told me she locked the key in! it was difficult not to point out that she did that before. haha But as the driver, I've not locked a key in a vehicle in countless years. I've always removed the key from the ignition then exited. I have nearly forgotten the FOB for my Lariat, but that's because it's always sitting in the console or in my pocket. If the console option, I could forget to grab it while I exit. At least I can't lock it with the key in. Well yes, but no. So yeah, just curious the circumstance in how you are locking the key inside.

Keys are different now than years back but I had a metal key for my 2003 F150 to use for unlocking it. I think that one was in fact cut from a hardware store.

The keypad is something that will probably keep me in a Ford for my next truck as well. After using it for a few months I don't think I can live without it.

My Explorer has the keypad. My first Explorer came with a thick plastic card that had an attached key shape cut out that would unlock the door.
This truck, First time was I threw my keys in the front getting stuff out the back door and the key lock got depressed.
This time I set the keys on the front seat, got stuff out the back, grabbed my coffee and breakfast sandwich and forgot the keys were on the seat.
I’m not looking for an extra “switchblade” key fob. I’m looking for a flat metal key that would fit in my wallet. Just for mechanically unlocking the door.
Twice in two years. Yup, it’s epidemic.
