Considering Smartlink Upgrade
Thinking about doing the 2010-16 upgrade for my truck, but really want to know what it does, outside of remote start, before buying it. For me the biggys would be tire pressures battery charge. I'm gone for long periods of time, will Smartlink/Fordpass inform me of issue and let me check voltages and pressures remotely?
I just added the Smartlink to my 2014 FX4. The biggest part of it is remote start but it will allow lock/unlock your doors and it will give you some diagnostic stuff such as fuel level, driving habits (braking, idling, acceleration, high speed), odometer, battery voltage and if you throw any codes it will send you an alert. It does not let you monitor individual tire pressures but I'm sure it would send you an alert if it detected low pressure. I believe it does on the new trucks coming out but not on the upgrade for the older trucks. It also shows the location of the truck and I believe it will let you create a geofence so if it travels outside of a certain radius in will alert you. That is not a feature I've used with mine yet. It does also give you a 4G wifi hotspot as well. I bought mine outright online from a Ford dealership which includes 2 years worth of service and I was told that it was $6/month afterward. The hotspot is free for a month and if you want to continue it after that, you have to have it activated through Verizon. They shipped it to me and once I received it, I emailed the fellow from the dealership and he activated for me and sent me the instructions to program it. It was quite easy with the exception of there being a slight error in the instructions. Once we got that sorted out, it was no problem. Hope that answers some questions you have. If you have anymore, let me know.
