Compass Quit Workig
The compass on my 2020 F150 quit working but everything else on the touch screen is still functioning. Does anybody else who experienced this problem know if it is easy or difficult to fix? I really don’t have much - if any, need for the compass but the truck is still under full warranty. However, I’m not sure whether I would want the dealer’s service technicians removing the screen or disassembling part of the dash.
Could be an IPC, GWM, APIM, or HS3-CAN bus issue. Pinpoint tests say to perform self-tests on those three modules.
From the WSM:
Compass (With Touchscreen Audio)
On the base and mid-level IPC, the compass is displayed as a 1 or 2 character display in the message center that indicates the current direction of the vehicle (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, or NW). On the high-level IPC, the compass can be displayed as a virtual compass along with the 1 or 2 character display. The IPC receives the compass direction message from the GWM over the HS3-CAN. The GWM receives the compass direction message from the APIM over the HS3-CAN.

52merc - The your post #2 is info for "IPC" messenger center. Treasurer is asking about the touchscreen display (I think?). But a question about "Does the compass show up in the IPC? " help.

The travel direction (N, NE, E, SE, S, etc.) is shown on many of the other IPC screens. I use the digital speedometer screen a lot and it shows up there.

More from the WSM:
If the compass direction message is missing or invalid for 5 seconds or less, the compass displays the last vehicle direction based upon the last known good compass display message received. If the compass direction message is invalid or missing for more than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the display to all dashes (---).
Possible Sources
The GPS antenna integral to the GPSM is used to acquire the compass heading. The compass heading is sent over
the CAN to be displayed on the centerstack infotainment display.
The GPSM provides vehicle location information for identifying the vehicle location in the event of a collision.
The GPSM requires PMI when it is replaced.
