Default Cold Weather Lock Issues

First time I have had my truck in sub freezing weather. Went to start it this morning and the drivers (only) side lock wouldn't fully engage. See attached video.

If you haven't done so, remove the drain plugs from the bottom of your doors. Then spray the latches with PB blaster - this will help prevent the latches from freezing and it might help the lock.

I'm thinking of just opening the slits in the door drain plugs, so they can drain if ever needed (I keep my 2 drain channels clean, so probably not), and not look bad at the same time. Having said that, how can removing those plugs prevent the locks from freezing??? Those drains would only work if the bottom of the door is flooded, meaning the small drain channels were plugged. But if they're open (like on my truck), just don't see what good that would do. Am I missing something?

It's my understanding that removing the plugs will allow air to circulate into the door
