What is this? I did some research and people have various rattles, it 17 f150 3.5, 56,000mi (yikes, warranty is about to go)

does this nearly 99/100 cold starts. Brought it in, they said they removed an old mount that wasn’t being used and it was rusty??? What!? Next morn same thing..

Yep cam phasers. Unfortunately a common problem.

 

It’s a 3 sec rattle at cold start, then it’s fine. Except some slight ticking at very light throttle, when it’s cold. Noticed that because I was between two cars in a parking spot, and The sound was bouncing off the cars..

anyways, turns out taking out the unused rusted mount did zero. Brought it back in, the tech called and said the vct something was worn. They ordered the parts and I gotta bring it back in. Mentioned having to take apart the front of the engine..

I was at work, and busy, so I couldn’t get into details with him, they were gone when I picked up the truck. I’ll call tomorrow to find out exactly what they plan on doin.
57,000. So it will all be covered under warranty he says.
