I've never had a problem using a hose in the engine bay, I don't really "cover" anything I just make a point to not spray things like the alternator, fuse/electrical boxes directly or with high pressure. I also like to only clean the engine bay when I know I can leave the truck sit in the driveway for a while and dry but that's just a personal thing.

Other than that, I know a lot of guys use plastic protection chemicals, engine cleaners, and even tire shine on the engine bay to clean it up. I have had fantastic luck with a good old bottle of Simple Green you can get from just about any store.

I use simple green and a pressure washer just make sure the engine isn't hot. I have done this on all of my vehicles without a problem.

I use Gunk engine brite. Engine cool to touch, low pressure power washer. Try not to spray electrical items directly and for extended times.

Great info guys! Anyone ever have a problem cleaning their engines? I live on a dirt road and the dust can really build up.

Same here. Been using Simple Green for years and it does a great job of keeping the engine bay looking like new.
Spray down everything, let it sit for a couple of minutes and hose it off. Makes all the plastics look new again.
