Tried to install a set of OEM chrome mirror caps for the standard mirrors. I originally had black caps. Well tried to put one on and realized it had these additional tabs preventing it from being installed. There is no recess cut into my mirror housing to recieve them.

Do I need to swap these out for the Ford Accessories ones (aka Putco Mirror Covers)? I was hoping to use the actual OE part. Anybody have trouble with this? I saw a picture of the paint to match ones have 3 middle tabs. My factory black ones had none in the middle, just the 4 mounting tabs.

 

Did you ever find an answer or solution? Can the additional tab be removed and will the remaining 3 go into place like the black covers?
