Chrome led headlights to oem black led headlights question.
I have a 2016 f150 lariat sport with the factory led headlights. I really like the black headlight housings that come on the special edition f150. Can I just buy the black housings and swap every thing else over? If so does any one have the most current part numbers for those housings?

You should be able to swap your chrome housings for the new black housings with no further changes needed (you lucky dog!)
I don't know the part numbers but here are a set on eBay..http://www.ebay.com/itm/15-thru-17-f...r/182075840237
EDIT: I did have the parts numbers saved for a future project (hopefully) they are GL3Z-13008-C and GL3Z-13008-D

The new(er) housings on your truck are sealed. You can't just buy the de contented SE housings and switch the LED bulbs over without (baking) unsealing your current housings. If your housings were pre (APPROX. 8-2015) you would have doors in the housings and be able to switch the bulbs over without baking.
As it is you will have to buy the SE housings complete with bulbs. I' believe you can still switch the ballasts over. As far as the rest goes they are plug and play if you currently have LED's.
So, to recap, you need to buy the SE housings with the LED bulbs already included unless you want to bake open your existing housings to get the LED bulbs out.
Nope this makes sense...
Someone correct me if I am wrong.

That set I posted from eBay is a sealed set, and although I don't have LED's I have read that you can swap the ballast with no issues.

So are you guys are saying that the black housings the led are replaceable? This is stupid ford if it's the case.

This is what I was worried about. Ive read the eBay listings and some say this but it doesn't make sense. I thought that if by chance a led bulb fails that it's replaceable? Right now I don't want to check because it's such a pain to remove the housings. My truck was made in July of 2016.

Pure speculation tells me they saw a money maker after the trucks are out of warranty...

I believe you are going to have sealed LEDs on your truck now going by the build date... so you cannot take the bulbs out of your current light. That being the case you would need to make sure you buy the sealed SE edition lights for your truck and just swap your ballast over to them.

The new SE housings from ford come selaed, with everything except the ballasts, and bottom plastic attachments.
You can swap over those from your chrome housings. The new SE housings from ford run 1260.00 for both.
