Chipped Chrome Wheel--- Warranty coverage?
I discovered this on my front passenger side wheel. Not sure if it was there when I bought the truck. Truck has 2500 miles. Seems like it is two impact marks. Tire has no abrasive markings. However passenger side is the most likely to get curbed, but IO don't remember curbing.. I doubt this is a warrenty item, but thought I would ask here. Also should I try to "protect" it?

These are pictures of my Focus ST wheel. Car had 160 miles on it when I bought on a Friday. Drove it less than 15 miles. While looking it over at home I noticed the gouge in the wheel. Took it back to the dealer on Monday with about 180 miles on it. My warranty claim was denied. Notice that the tire doesn't have a scratch on the dressing the dealer put on it. Ford says I ran into something and caused it. Good luck.

I wouldn’t expect ford to cover either of those under warranty. If it has the slightest appearance of being caused by any impact, they won’t cover it. Their assumption is that it left the factory not chipped, so any impact after that is not their fault/problem.
Some of the chrome wheels will chip due to being defective, but even than you’ll need luck to get it covered. I had two that chipped and Ford didn’t cover it. Some others have been able to get their chrome wheels replaced.
Good luck!

You don’t get if you don’t ask. Highly unlikely, but I would push the porous theme. The marks are too symmetrical and there is no abrasions either which add to the poor molding theory.

Well an update, 3 of my 4 wheels have these chips. I know I have never curbed on the driver's side ( and I don't think the passenger's side either). Could a machine that puts the tires on the wheels cause this?

It seems very unlikely that the factory tire machine did this, but [yes] it is possible for tire machines to do this if the wheel coating is defective. I would suspect that it occurred afterwards, by someone driving the truck.
If it wasn't you or someone in your house, then it could be from someone test driving the truck before you bought it or a dealership employee moving the truck around...there is no way to know at this point.

yeah I never really look closely at the wheels till the second wash as then the wheels were dirty. The truck had a number of test drives on it. odd. No other reports. I guess I will put some protective coating on the chip areas

I had a similar issued on my 2017 Lariat, at the time I was just under 36,000 miles warranty and Ford replaced all four.. Also, keep an eye on your running boards for peeling, I also had both of those replaced. I got no push back from Ford on either item. Good Luck.

I had one of mine replaced about 3 weeks ago, that had less visible damage than the OP's example. I just looked at the new wheel closely, and noticed it has several scratches on it. I also noticed another of my wheels has what appears to be a deep nick in the coating. I will be contacting the dealer about both issues, but am really irritated that my replacement wheel has more scratches on it than my other 3 with 33k and 21 months on them.
