CarPlay vs. Android Auto
Now that quite a few have installed the 2.x update and have been using Sync 3 I want to get an opinion of CarPlay vs. Android Auto? Currently I have CarPlay but prefer Google maps significantly over Apple maps. I have been contemplating a switch to an android phone anyway as I am due for an upgrade soon. Just wanted to get opinions between the two and the benefits of AA over CarPlay. Ready. Set. Go.

I believe it's a matter of preference. Both platforms have pluses and minuses.
Different does not mean better or worse, just different. You said you prefer Google maps over Apple (which is just licensed tomtom maps) so you kinda answered your own question.
My two cents would be to go to the store and play with some android phones and see which one you like. Get it. There are very few apps you can't get on both platforms and any data or music on your iPhone can be moved.

I would find a buddy with an android phone and pair it to your truck... drive and get a feel for what your preference would be. If no one is willing to lend a phone, go get your upgrade and hold off porting your number to it... try it in the ride, if It does not work out...most carriers have a 15 day return policy ??
Also food for thought.. I know apple guys that switched to android... they hate it as a phone and can't wait to get back to apple...me..I like android...switched to iPhone 6plus last year and couldn't wait to get back to android

The grass is always greener...I can't wait to switch back to iPhone.
I wouldn't let the question of AA or CP be my main decision criteria either, unless navigation is a big issue for you in which case AA probably wins. Since I have the factory nav I won't be using either AA or CP. SYNC is a better holistic solution in my opinion.
