Have a question about caps. I have a 2016 F150 Lariat Super Crew with 5.5 foot bed. I have a friend who has a Jeraco topper / cap that he used on a 2005 F150 5.5 foot bed truck. he offered me his cap if I want it. Will this cap fit on my truck? I know that tailgate has been changed and body styles have changed between the generations, but curious if this cap would work on my truck. I tried to find a guide that shows the cap dimensions etc. I can get the cap quite inexpensively, but it is not really near by. I dont want to drive a few hours if it definitely wont fit nor do I want to hold my friend up if he has someone else who is interested. Any thoughts on this appreciated.

I think we used to have looser standards for fitment. In 199x if it didn't fall off it 'fit'. These days with all the subtle shapes to the back of the cab and bed shape, if you really want it to fit you need to stay within a generation. Between Facebook and Craigslist you can find quite a few. Don't be shocked that you will see lots of ads with incomplete information. I probably spent a month and replied to a dozen ads to find one that was the make and model within 500 miles. New, they will cost you $2500 - $4000.

 

Thanx InTheGorge. I measured and even though the measurements of the cap and my truck are similar they dont appear exact. I called Jeraco and they told me the cap would not fit. There is enough difference between the Ford F-150 generations that cause the cap not to fit. One of which is the tail gate, the other is the shape of the back of the pickup bed. So I guess a 'good deal' turns out to be not so good. Looks like I will have to pass on it and continue to look on craigslist, facebook marketplace, etc.
