Default Canceling an Order

First off - congrats to everyone who has a new 2015!

I ordered a Lariat Lux back in October and it's scheduled for delivery on 2/1. Unfortunately my car broke down and now I'm in a bind, so I called my dealer to cancel my retail order as I look for a stock order.

He told me now that it has a VIN #, he can't cancel it. He seems honest so I don't think he's intentionally lying...and maybe that's the truth. Just curious if anyone knew.

As it stands now, my $1K deposit will be tied up until he sells that car (for more since I'm on XPlan)...and then he'll return it to me.

if that happened to me, I would buy a $1500 beater on Craigslist. Look for a 2k one and wave $1500 in front of them for the car. Drive it for a month (until your 2015 comes in) and I bet you can re-sell the beater on Craigslist for $1750. Take the $250 and head to Ruth's Chris in your new Lariat!

Just my 2 cents.

I would do the same. if you ask your dealer for a rental rate they can probably put you in a focus for $500 bucks a month

I guess the itch has made me say screw it, let's get a platinum. Doesn't help that it's slim pickins with those too.

I haven't put my second order in, but I'm not sure I won't flip the &&@$ out if they make me wait for the first truck to sell before letting me get my deposit back.

Did you sign anything when you put down the deposit? Read it. It will spell out your rights to a refund and the conditions. If you didn't read it the first time, that isn't the dealers fault, no reason to flip out on them for enforcing what you signed if it isn't too your liking later.

I did something similar.
I ordered a 2001 F-150 with the Off Road Pkg.
I wanted to change the order to include a Equal lock rear end.
The dealer told me it had a Vin.# and he couldn't stop the truck from being built.
He told me it wasn't a problem and would reorder what I wanted. He said they sell every truck they get and it wasn't a big deal. Back then special orders were only $200.00.
If I wanted my money back the Ford Dealer game me that option.
Good Luck.What a crappy dealer.

Back in the day there wasn't a contract. Just fill out the order, pay $200.00 & wait eight to nine weeks. Get the Call etc.
Times have changed. Too Bad.

I'm in a similar situation as the OP except I didn't have to make a deposit. Want to change my order from a 302A to a 501A but since it's now scheduled the dealer told me they couldnt change it. So I'll be canceling and reordering which sucks but I don't want to get something I know I won't be completely happy with. The downside is now the wait will be til who knows when.

So my jeep died today, went in cancelled... Wasn't charged. Needed a replacement for a daily driver right now so I had to get something quick.

Got the first 2015 sold here, 302a xlt with the 3.5 ecoboost and fx package, wasn't the 2.7 I wanted to try out and was bronze fire instead of blue but it's a pretty color in its own right.

Canceled my order with my dealer today. They couldn't switch the 302A to a 501A. So new order it is. Now the wait starts all over! 5.0 SuperCrew 4x4 Lariat (501A), 3.55 elec lock, trailer tow, spray-in bedliner, rubber mats, Sport Pkg w/ black leather.
