Default Cam Phaser

2016 5.0 XLT
65k miles

Had transmission replaced at about 50k. That was fun. Ford battled me on replacing it, but eventually agreed to 90% of cost (it was out of years of warranty)

Now I have an engine noise / rattle on cold start. Dealer is telling me it's Cam Phasers. $5700.

I've seen a TSB for 2017 - 2021 but only good until Feb 2023.

I plan on calling Ford corporate on Monday to discuss. Fearing the worst here. I don't have $5700 to spend.

Interested in ideas / suggestions.

No use in saying it, but you can't expect to get all these perks on a 7 year old vehicle.
Better to trade up or do the job yourself.
Good luck.

An independent shop might be the way to go here.. I would use OEM parts though.

I thought the Cam Phaser TSB was for the 3.5 Ecoboost only.

Yeah, I know it's asking a lot of Ford. I get it. But the mileage is so low.

To spent $5700 on cam phasers... I might as well consider a new engine. Used ones with 100k go for around $5-$6k. Or a new for $10k.
