Yes,sound usually is a part of it (atleast was/is for me) but it's also about the feel, driving experience, heritage, and just knowing at the end of the day there's 8 cylinders under the hood, not 6 cylinders.I've always been very vocal on having a ton of respect for the V6 EB engines, but regardless of how good they may become,or better they may become, they will never be an option for me in fullsize trucks, performance vehicles and some luxury vehicles. But,that's just me.

Give it time. Eventually the power, mileage and reliability will be proven far superior to big block NA engines, and they will be dropped in the 1/2 ton truck market. It's the trend that's been slowly picking up speed over the past decades and is more prominent in Europe because they're ahead of us in that regard. To meet government requirements, the V8 will keep getting smaller to the point where it'll be like the current 3.5 NA is. That's just the way the trends are headed, and eventually, it can't be resisted anymore. Many people who haul will probably switch over to the new diesel, further reducing sales of the V8.
2016 Saw 70% of sales were the V6 engines, 30% was the 5.0. And of all the engines, the 2.7 was also 30% and sold just as many as the 5.0. But those numbers keep sliding in favor of the V6's. I think it's just unavoidable.

Will the v6 be limited by its small displacement when half tons are 600hp trucks. The v8 is not dead... it will carry the eco flag into the future. I doubt Ford or any other automaker will say x is enough hp.. no need to innovate further.
People keep thinking EB is anti-V8 (it's not).
It's just easy for one to think so.Its simply just a way to get bigger power out of a smaller engine,no different then having a EB V8 (smaller V8 efficiency, bigger V8 power) just like the current V6 EB marketing (V6 efficiency,V8 power).
Some will say,Ford will just up the power of the V6 EB like the Ford GT.No,a engine like the Ford GT will never find its way into a mass production truck, for cost and reliability reasons.
And ofcourse some will say "Ford will never have a EB V8 for CAFE" blah blah blah, well there's been a few articles that reference Ford having a EB V8 program off/on for the last few years, also the next GT500 is said to be a EB 5.0 V8.EB V8 will complete the EB line.Oh,and Ford is working on a 7.0 V8 as we speak, yes,a 7.0 V8.
CAFE what?
