For us the 6.5 foot bed was a must. This past summer we hauled many, many loads to the recycling yard, to the dump, etc. and that extra foot of bed is really needed. Even then we had things that were longer and had to stick them off the back of the tailgate, and on several trips used an additional carrier on the hitch for some bulky but not heavy stuff.
Fits in the garage with 3" to spare.

If it's just the look that is bothering you I would consider evening the look out with a level an a slightly larger and more aggressive set of tires. When I look at factory 6.5 bed I am bothered also as I've had one on a 10 lariat but they seem to come together more evenly if you fill the wheel wells up a bit.

I hate to break this to you, but the ~5.xL V8 (most with less HP and torque than the current 5.0), and has been hauling anything and everything without issue for many, many years.
You act as if the F150 was unable to tow anything heavier than a john boat with a 9.9hp outboard or a 10' enclosed utility trailer until the almighty 3.5L "EgoBoost" came out.
Bologna.
And, for the record, I'm a current 3.5L EB owner.
