I have not done my rears...but I do like the soundstage orientation capability in the isc 6.5's. Ebay has them for $79. but no adapters. Focals can be overly bright for some peoples ears.. but I like bright.

Soundstage spatial orientation is a big deal to me but apparently not to everyone. I don't like a soundstage that sounds like its coming from a soundbasement.

They have always had the best customer service.

If you know about aftermarket audio, you know speakers rated starting with a 5 are best with an aftermarket amp and speakers rated starting with a 2 are good for stock replacement powered by stock headunit/amp.

Thanks UncleG for the recommendations. Ordered both front and rears and centres. They will be delivered Monday. Try and get them installed next week. Will give my feedback after.

Is there a reason the JBL's are recommended over other 6x9 from Crutchfield, such as Infinity, Polk, Kenwood?

I think it's just sound preference and past experience with those brands. I went with JBL because I know from my past experience with infinity that their tweeters are really bright, too bright for my ears, and JBLs are not. With my past experience with JBL speakers I never felt like my ear drums we going to revolt and attack my brain stem. Your ear is different than mine though, you may like high frequencies, I prefer more mid to mid high frequencies. I'm also one of the morons who can listen to that Yanny/Laurel audio clip and hear say Yanny, Laurel, and Yanaurel.

Best suggestion I can give you is to try and find an stereo place that carries the brands you're considering (even if it isn't the same exact models) and listen to them. You'll get the feel for how that brand reproduces sound and which one more suites your ears.

The lower end JBL's and Infinity have lower impedance higher sensitivity which makes a lot more efficient use of the low power from the stock headunit or stock amp. The higher end JBL and Infinity are also low impedance and high sensitivity but really need a lot more power to be at their best. Power from an outboard amp. Kenwood speakers mostly suck. Polk are sensitive speakers but 4 ohm. When looking for replacement speakers for low-power headunit-only use, look for 2-3 ohm speakers.

I upgraded all 7 stock speakers + added a powered sub for about $400. Budget!

The final component (TBX10A subwoofer) is now installed in my 2018 Lariat with the stock non-Sony head unit. I had no sub connector in the C pillar, so I wired myself. Power from battery, remote from fuse #37, inputs from Front L&R via a Line Converter. No Forscan needed for this install at all.

Makes a solid difference in the quality of the sound system by filling in all the lows that the door speakers can't produce. I'm not trying to wake the dead or shatter glass. I just want to listen to Van Halen at 15-20 on the volume **** and it's great for that.

Thanks to D2Abbott for the suggestion on the sub. It's worked out great for me at at $50 can't beat the price!

Mike

Huge improvement in bass with that (also needed to adjust ACM programming using FORScan to enable the sub). Spent ~$350 for all of the components on Amazon. I'm very happy with the setup now.

Build List
  • Front: JBL GT7-96
  • Rear: JBL GT7-6
  • Center: Polk DB351
  • Sub: Cerwin Vega VPAS10
  • Harnesses: 2x Metra 72-5602, 1x Motorcraft WPT-1212
  • Mounting Plates: Metra 82-5606, Metra 82-5605
  • Miscellaneous wiring accessories/components around from previous builds.
Airforce,,,

I am also using the VPAS10.
How did you hook it up?
Did you use the 1212 adapter to the factory plug for all connections? Power, Ground, (+), (-), and remote?....

Thanks,,,,DMAN

Just ordered Focal Integration ISC 165, RCX-165, Alpine KTP-445U, and a FOR-11CK to get things improved a bit. Will leave the center speaker stock for the time being.
