I put Kicker 6x9s in front doors and Polk DB651 in rears (had Polks on a shelf collecting dust). Also installed a Kicker Hideaway. Sound is miles better than stock.

That being said, I'm currently trying to find the right amp to add to this setup. But for the price and ease of above, you will be much happier than stock.

Cheapest up grade I think would be sound proofing doors and speakers add an amp with sub

Just swap the speakers out with the best JBL or Infinity replacements you can afford. They are 2.7 ish ohms impedance and very sensitive voice coils and will be a lot louder and even cleaner than the stock speakers. www.crutchfield.com

Add a small powered sub behind the rear seat. The speakers aren't that bad once you add a little bass to it. $150 or so. I bought a Kenwood ksc-sw1

The stock front door speakers are crap, so any upgrade will help. If I remember they said "made in China" on them. The magnet was very weak. You can replace the front center speaker for $20 or less. Adding a rear sub adds an additional dimension of sound, problem is that the lower frequencies take a lot more power so you will need a decent amp to power it.
