Break-in period & problems
I’m in a similar predicament myself. Bought mine a week ago, has about 140 miles on it now and we have a nine hour drive from Dallas to Ruidoso, NM Tuesday. I told the gf no cruise control and she rolled her eyes at me
I’ll try to not use cruise control and change up speed somewhat, but will be hard to do on the two lane highways. Going to try to enjoy the drive and not overthink it.....

Here's some pretty good info on both sides of the coin. But people will believe what they want to believe regardless. I find it interesting albeit but not surprising that beta-males tend to follow the manual more than others. Could be coincidence though and hard to exactly correlate since no one wants to admit they are a beta-male.

There's nothing wrong with reading the manual and in fact it's been my experience that alphas read the manual because they want to get the correct information and make up their own mind on what to do with that info.
Then there's also guys who can read the manual and it may as have been written in Arabic.
A healthy portion of the younger crowd don't understand the meaning of break-in or how a combustion engine works. So it all fall's on deaf ears.
My 28yr old nephew is a perfect example. Called me the other day to ask how to open the gas flap on his f150 rental. He's also the same nephew who drove his Jeep Patriot for 3 years before I pointed out the moonroof opened..! You would think, he'd want to know what the button does, but nope.
Well his Jeep (as is my sisters) is now getting a new engine because (Fiat) have oil issue's as well, just this new generation can't start a lawn mower, let alone read a manual.

Dude Wikipedia is far from fact. Todays engineers are the ones that wrote the break in procedure in the manual, just saying. I've bought or been party to the purchase of Nissans, Hondas, Fords, Hyundais, Toyotas, Jeeps, Mitsubishis, GMs and Mercedes and every single one has the same no hard acceleration and vary speed break in procedure. The only difference is the amount of miles. Everyone focuses on the engine but seem to forget there is a transmission connected to it that also needs to be broken in.
Calls people betas and then posts a wikipedia link. Hilarious.

What people just don't understand is that the engine is run-in at the factory. The break-in in the Owner's Manual is for the transmission, transfer case and differentials. Since the problems that the OP are referring to are all engine problems, oil consumption, cam phasers, knocking noises, the answer is no, what the owner does after purchase is not causing or making these problems worse.
