I’m in a similar predicament myself. Bought mine a week ago, has about 140 miles on it now and we have a nine hour drive from Dallas to Ruidoso, NM Tuesday. I told the gf no cruise control and she rolled her eyes at me

I’ll try to not use cruise control and change up speed somewhat, but will be hard to do on the two lane highways. Going to try to enjoy the drive and not overthink it.....

One thing to keep in mind for those that do the break-in - reset your adaptive learning once you have got it out of your system. It'll take a lot longer to learn it out.

We were faced with that back in early 2014. I used the Cruise and used the gear lockout. Maybe 20 minutes at most at 65 in 6th, then locked out 6th to raise RPMs. Then raised speed to 70 to raise RPMs, then unlocked 6th. Then lowered to 60... No big deal.

Calls people betas and then posts a wikipedia link. Hilarious.

There's nothing wrong with reading the manual and in fact it's been my experience that alphas read the manual because they want to get the correct information and make up their own mind on what to do with that info.

Then there's also guys who can read the manual and it may as have been written in Arabic.

A healthy portion of the younger crowd don't understand the meaning of break-in or how a combustion engine works. So it all fall's on deaf ears.

My 28yr old nephew is a perfect example. Called me the other day to ask how to open the gas flap on his f150 rental. He's also the same nephew who drove his Jeep Patriot for 3 years before I pointed out the moonroof opened..! You would think, he'd want to know what the button does, but nope.

Well his Jeep (as is my sisters) is now getting a new engine because (Fiat) have oil issue's as well, just this new generation can't start a lawn mower, let alone read a manual.

Takes a real Alpha male to try and insult a random person while sitting behind his computer screen....... But hey if that's what makes you "feel good about yourself" then call us beta all day long, doesn't bother me and im glad i can boost your mood

The only difference is the amount of miles. Everyone focuses on the engine but seem to forget there is a transmission connected to it that also needs to be broken in.

He'll believe something he read on a random website but he wont believe what the manufacturer of HIS truck has written in HIS manual, if thats what being an alpha male is about then i have no problem being a beta lol

I realize you won't believe me, and that's ok, but I was actually looking for something to back up my claims that breaking in modern engines was not necessary when I came across the wikipedia page. It summed it up nicely. I wasn't looking for an official Ford statement saying, "We put this in the manual for customers that can't think for themselves". No biggie and you can have the last word I know it's important to betas to have peer adoration. I'll bow out of this thread I think the members can make their own decisions.

What people just don't understand is that the engine is run-in at the factory. The break-in in the Owner's Manual is for the transmission, transfer case and differentials. Since the problems that the OP are referring to are all engine problems, oil consumption, cam phasers, knocking noises, the answer is no, what the owner does after purchase is not causing or making these problems worse.
