Hey guys one thing I did notice is that my check valve seems to be missing a plastic piece at the seam? In the other thread you guys linked me to johnday has a black plastic piece at the seam. I have attached the photo of mine so you guys can see the difference. Is this the problem?
One thing you can check easily, is pull the checkvalve, and see if you can blow thru both ends. Blow thru the black end first, you shouldn't be able to, the valve should be closed with flow in that direction.
Here's a link to the updated hose/checkvalve assembly.

Hey if you can help me fix this I'll Express mail you a 6 pack. Actually funny you ask: the grinding sound started after a very cold storm blew through the town I was staying in. Next day heard the sound. It does seem to happen more after very cold nights.
when you say old valve do you mean factory default? I saw online people installing new valves that have little plastic "hoods" to protect from the elements.
I'll try blowing through the black end of the valve. If I can does that mean it needs to be replaced?

I don't think that's a problem, likely just the angle of the camera. I'd bank a 6 pack it's that checkvalve. Just curious, have your ambient temps been down lately? On the older valves, it seemed they were sensitive to colder temps.

The part you're seeing with the "hood", is the solenoid that was used on earlier generation trucks, not applicable to yours.
Ford earlier this year came out with an updated checkvalve/hose assembly. I can't recall when in 2018, they started using the updated assembly on the '18s, but no doubt there are some out there with the older version.
Another option is to use a "YG360" valve. That's what many of us did to solve the problem. My truck acted up with about 500 miles on it. I bought the YG360, and have had no problem since.

So just took the f150 for a 4 wheel drive test. Couldn't get the grinding to start.. but when I switch into 4WD sometimes the engine sounds like it is humming and when I turn it groans. Then, when I switch back to 2WD the groaning/humming sounds continue for a bit then stop. The sound also stops sometimes if I switch back into 4WD then back into 2WD.
When I first got this truck i do NOT recall all of that humming and groaning when it was in 4 wheel drive... and it doesn't seem to happen every time. This is not normal right?
Where can I buy a replacement valve? I'm traveling so online shopping is tricky. Maybe Auto Zone?

Auto Zone could have it, I'd just stop at a Ford dealer. That checkvalve is used in various places on vehicles, just ask for a YG360, or likely, they'd have the updated valve/assembly. Not expensive at all. The black end of the 360, is slightly larger than the OEM valve, but you shouldn't have a problem installing it.

Thanks again for the replies wanna ask for one more: is it normal for the f150 to make a clunk noise sometimes when switching into 4WD? And for the truck to sound like it is lurching/humming when in 4WD, especially when turning? If so fine, but the part that gets me is the sound continues for a while when I switch back to 2WD. The humming is loud enough where it makes me concerned, but read elsewhere that these kinds of sounds in 4WD are often normal. Gonna do one more test drive and try 4WD low.
