yeah I think when you started to push your front calipers in - if I read it right it sounds like you did your fronts first - so you started on the front pax side right?
Anyway if you don't open the reservoir cap - the pressure has to go somewhere - and it will find a place. I suspect since they are probably next to each other on the ABS block - it pressed on the next short run to the rear caliper and popped the piston seal. which is easy to do honestly. Since the rear piston also has that parking brake screw drive in there - you have to deal with that too and aside from the warnings posted had the piston not popped out of pocket it would have screwed back in I suspect. your issue I guess - sight unseen - is the rear caliper needs the piston pressed back in with a new seal - and you might have some of the old seal in the area. oH and a new piston boot - unless they use a one piece boot/seal device.
Good luck and If you can take some pictures. Did I read it right that one of your other piston boots is torn also?

The reason why the rear caliper pistons popped out is because the Electronic parking brake was not put into service mode. This caused the rear E-brake to self adjust, and pushed out the piston.

Guys, thanks for all they very useful information (said seriously, not sarcastically). I wound up taking GMC to Ford's advice and just bit the bullet and bought a new caliper. Once I transferred everything over and put it on, I hopped into the truck put the e brake on and off a few times and the message went away. Truck is still up on stands with both rear wheels off and front wheels on but only hand tightened the lug nuts so the wheels would be out of the way and they wouldn't just fall off if I bumped into them. I'll take the front wheels off and flush the system properly now that all the mechanics seem to be working properly.
Again, thanks for the help.
Again, thanks for the help.

I was not aware of this issue. Is the electronic e-brake on all models?
