Box Link versus the other hooks

Box Link versus the other hooks
Newish owner here. I have just been getting around to using the truck to take my mountain bike up to the hills. Out of ignorance and laziness, I have not installed the Box Link thingies. I have been using the hooks/loops already in place. I put tie-down straps from one hook, wrap around the bike 5-6 times and tie down at the hook across. I do one strap for the front of the bike (and the forward section of the bed) and another for the rear of the bike (and tail end of the bed). Been working great. HOWEVER, I crank the tie-downs kind of hard. So I wonder about that bed material. Would the box link be a better place to put my tie-downs? The hooks have a slightly better angle, but I could do with box link. (Not much interested in anything too elaborate for simply putting a bike in the back of a pickup, and it helps the hydrolic disc brakes on the bike to keep it in an upright position.)
