Default Box Link Cleats

I'm getting a Retrax Pro Mx bedcover installed tomorrow, which requires removing the forward box link cleats so the storage canister can fit. The cleats were installed when the truck was delivered, and now I can't figure out how to remove them. I've fiddled with the key locks but can't seem to free up the cleats no matter which way the keys are turned. I don't know whether they're supposed to detach sideways, straight out, or what.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Unlock them, bend the lower handle out then slide them down. It takes a little effort.

Don't remove them, it will fit. Trust me. I didn't remove my cleats before the RetraxPro MX was installed and I'm REALLY glad i didn't. I'm embarrassed to admit I didn't even think of the Retrax's cylinder impacting the box links but it does, and once the Retrax is installed you can't install or remove the cleats without removing the Retrax.

But because they were installed I have access to the rear hole of the cleat so I can at least hook an s-hook from a bungee cord so I still some anchorage from the front cleat.

Your installer is wrong, it will fit.

This is why I've chosen to go with a rigid panel flip type cover. I plan on using my tie-down locations.

Where do you find the key?

Just found one of mine has popped out and I have no idea where the key would be.
