Default Bilstein B8 6112 on 2017 2.7l

Looking at bilsteinus.com looks like they don't recommend these shocks for a 2.7 but do on 5.0 and 3.5. But, oddly 5100's are so that leads me to guessing the engine is too light for the spring rate since that's the difference in package.

Not planning on using the full 2" lift they'll go to, so I may just try them anyway. The only downside I can see would be that they'd ride a little rougher because the spring rate isn't matched to the weight.

Called Bilstein, rep had no clue and just did the same lookup ... I didn't expect any different. I'll prob call stage3 soon to see what their take on this is.

My only other option seems to be Fox 2.0 since 5100 are indefinite back-order. I don't really want those.

Thoughts?

I recently installed them on my 2.7 at the highest setting. The ride is a little firmer but in a good way. When hitting bumps you feel it but only once and it is absorbed quickly, where as Stock it would kind of bounce several times and feel like it was slopping around. I think the 2.7 is lighter than the other engines as the highest setting put me slightly nose high. I added a 2.5 inch block to give me about 3/4 inch rake back.

I was about to pull the trigger on the bilstein 6112s but also noticed they were not listed as a recommended shock for the 2.7L screw 4x4 F-150. I emailed Bilstein and they said they would not warrant the 6112 on 2.7L because they had not tested the 6112s on a 2.7 L F-150. Now i am not sure what to do. Has anyone else installed 6112s on a 2.7 L F-150? They also said the 5100s should be back in stock in mid June. Bluebeast13 let us know how the shocks feel after a few hundred miles.

Well, you are probably out of luck or just accept the lack of warranty. It took Bilstein over 3 years to test the 5100 on the 3.5 and 5L engines after the 2015 was released.

Just ordered mine off the Autoplicity Bilstein blow-out going on. I'll report back in a few weeks when I get a chance to install them. (only planning on setting the ring in the middle position, would like a little leveling but it's not my primary reason for upgrading)

Stage3 and Autoplicity said no problem, but didn't mention anything about the warranty issue. I'll have to remember to tell them I have a 5.0 if I ever have to. My previous experience with Bilstein products on my cars is that I probably won't ever have to so I'm not terribly worried.

FYI anybody paying attention to this tread, I got a chance to install the rear 5160 bilstein shocks today. They feel great and make the rear end feel extremely planted and a lot more compliant than the stock shocks. Little bumps are more noticeable but large things like speed bumps or freeway expansion joints are much softer. However, as obsvered on installing bilstein shocks on cars, the rear end now sits higher than it did stock by a measured 1/2 ". I'll need to rethink what setting I use for the 6112 to for levelling.

Hi sdevol
Have you installed the 6112s? How is the ride on/off road? Thanks

Any pics of how your truck looks with them installed?
