LoL....that wasn't my line of thinking. It was more that there is always a driver, not necessarily a passenger.

Since my wife frequently asks me to grab stuff from the grocery store on my way home for work.....I'd kill for a couple of tabs to hang the handles of those plastic bags so things will stop rolling around on the back seat floor!

I cannot imagine a physics scenario in which a thin wooden handle could penetrate at least two layers of sheet metal. I'd be more concerned of it coming loose in a crash and going through the back glass into the back of my head.

I've seen an unsharpened pencil fired through plywood; I can't recall thickness or what type of plywood, as it was a high-school physics demo, but the takeaway was that a blunt but small surface with momentum behind it can penetrate fairly well.

With that said, I'd expect those clamps to hold up well enough to limit the differential velocity between the shovel and the cab of the vehicle; if the cab stops suddenly enough to shear the clamps and send the shovel into the cab, you're already having a very bad day.

Re: best under-$50 mods, if you live in a dusty climate, leaving a mini-California car duster (or similar) in the truck is a great way to quickly dust the dash / instrument cluster / Sync screen.

My buddies truck was rear-ended a while back. The impact crumbled everything from the bumper to the axle...essentially leaving very little from rear axle backwards. In that case, you are not looking at a velocity delta...I was imagining the shovel being 'pushed' into the cab. Either way, it's terribly unlikely, but maybe worth considering. I don't think it's necessarily unsafe where he has it, I just thought it through to the next step and mentioned the passenger side might be the ideal location.

Thanks for passing that along, I can cancel my murder plans now. Good thing you mention that....I'll be in Sugar Land for Christmas.
You guys can put this down for one of my best under $50 items because I'm going to order them. It looks like most of these hooks are under $10. I had no idea.

Not a modification. More of a solution to keeping dairy and frozen goods in a cold state. I fill a bag with refreezable pouches, throw them in the cooler. When I stop at the grocery store (more often than I like to admit) dairy products, milk, orange juice, frozen whatever gets thrown in the cooler. Then they make it home in a cool state of mind!

I use two Carabiner clips and just leave the cooler in the bed with a chunk of a fence post to keep it tight if that makes sense.

Lets not get off track again. This thread is about $50 or less mods. Cleaned up.
