Best inexpensive waterproof/mostly waterproof bed cover?
Typically run with my bed open, in fact never had a bed cover before on any of my trucks. However, I would like to be able to store luggage in the bed in the rain/snow on my new Screw (5.5' bed) when traveling, especially to the mountains. What's the least expensive cover that you guys have run that keeps the water out pretty well? I don't need one of these fancy $750+ covers/lids since it is a rarely used item. I've seen a few for $100-200 - are they total POSs at that price or steal seal up ok?

I got an Extang Trifecta a few weeks ago for the same reasons as you (typically have an open bed, but wanted something to keep stuff dry when needed). The Trifecta fits the bill nicely. About as water tight as you can get, light weight, easy to install and remove. It is a vinyl cover so will "wave" a little in the wind, but that's to be expected with a soft cover. $400 well spent.

I have a Lund soft tri-fold that I got from Rockauto a few months ago on sale for around $200. Its nothing special but it does the job. Sometimes during a real hard rain a few drops may creep inside but never enough to get anything wet. I took a 6 hour road trip recently with luggage in the back and it rained on us the whole way there. Nothing got wet inside.
I do like that it just clamps on and comes completely off in seconds. If you ever need to load up something real big, just unclamp it and throw it in the back seat.

I picked up the Tyger Auto tri-fold for the same reasons you stated and I've been impressed with it for ~$220 on amazon. I like how easy it is to put on/take off, it comes with a storage pouch to keep it clean in the garage, and it fits well and seems to be well made. At that price, it's hard to argue. It seems to keep the water out pretty well too, which is important in the NW.

Just one more point here. Most bed covers are water resistant, and not water proof. I've never had a water issue unless it was raining sideways for days and then it wasn't more than just a small amount. That being said, even when that happens, if you have a bed mat, most of the water will be under the bed mat and anything on the bed mat will be fine.

I had a lower priced Truxedo Truxport on my prior truck and it did a fine job of keeping rain out. I went with the more expensive option, the Truxedo LowPro QT on my new '16 F150 for two reasons. More flush mount & Lifetime Warranty.
That being said, the Truxport can be had for <$250 on a good day.

I have the cover linked below. I really like it and it keeps most of the rain out. It has been too cold to mess with, but I think I could make it very waterproof with very little effort. Price was good and it looks nice.

I have a Truxport sitting in my garage now for my new 2016. Just waiting on the rain to slack up so I can install it. From the reviews I have read both on here and online, it is a great entry level cover.

I have a tonneau pro trifold from jcwhitney. Had a $50 rebate at the time and free shipping so it made it under $200. Works great. Only gets wet around the tailgate when I go through a car wash. Prob because I didn't install the tailgate seal that came with it.
