Default Best combo for larger tires

What do y'all think will be the best combo for fuel economy for 33-35" offroad tires.

5.0 w 3.55
5.0 w 3.73
3.5 eb w 3.55
3.5 eb w 3.73

Thanks!

I plan to get the 5.0 with 3.73 gears, and install the Addictive Desert Designs suspension (http://www.addictivedesertdesigns.co...suspension-kit). I plan to keep the stock 18" rims from the lariat lux. What size tires should I run with that set-up?

No 3.73 unless you plan on ordering the Heavy Duty Payload Package.

I had the 5.0 w 3.55 on my last truck. After a 6" lift and 35's, I lost 4 mpg. Definitely don't wanna do that again. I think I'm gonna do a level with 33's on the next truck but am on the fence about engine/gear combo.

That's incorrect. I ordered the 3.73 with the 5.0 and don't have the heavy duty payload package. According to the order guide, the 3.73 comes with the heavy duty payload package.

It specifies you can also get the 3.73 with the Trailer tow package or the FX4 off-road package. I do have both of those.

That's correct. Heavy Duty payload is not required to get 3.73 gears. How did you decide on the 5.0 w 3.73? That's probably the rarest combo with the number of Ecoboosts and 3.55's out there

I liked the perceived longevity of the 5.0 over the turbos, and the capability of the 3.73.

You're right. 3.73 is optional on a 5.0L, but not with a 4x4 3.5L EB.

If you want a 4x4 3.5L EB with 3.73, must add Heavy Duty Payload.

So you can eliminate that one from contention.

Ditto...same thing here. I'd go with 3.73 in the future... Especially if you lift/level with larger, heavier tires and ESPECIALLY if you tow any serious weight.

Exact same here.

I also have an extremely short commute to work (2 miles). While this is not good for ANY engine, I didn't want to worry about IC condensation, lack of cold oil to the turbos, etc. with the engine never being able to fully warm up. This short commute is also the main reason I did not go with a '15 Super Duty with the Power Stroke (as much as I really wanted to).
