Bed extender question
... Somebody is selling me one used, it just comes with the torque bolts to attach to the bed, there are other plastic bushings that are missing, is that going to be a problem to install? or is it going to be loose or damaged faster over time?
Thanks!
Thanks!
I moved my bed extender from my 2012 F150 to my 2015, and didn't take the bushings with me. Well, they are very hard plastic so I'm not sure they are removable without destroying. But they are an easy replacement. I bought 4 of these straight from Fordparts at about $3.74 a piece, and picked them up from my dealer the next day. You need 4 of them, 2 per side. They aren't really required, but as you mentioned, the extender will be a little loose without them. One note... the bolts that go into the side rails will fit just fine, but you will need a thread cutter to cut threads into the metal sleeve in the center hole. Easy 5 minute job with a fair thread cutter tool that matches up to your bolts. Should be a 10-1.5mm thread cutter.
Another note on fitment in the new bed if using the extender from an earlier model like mine from the 2012. The wheel wells are apparently closer to the tailgate on the 5.5' bed so when I put my extenders in the completely stowed, folded up position, they hit the wheel wells so don't tuck in tight, or I have to prop them up on the well. Not a huge deal. Also, when rotated around to lock on top of the open tailgate, the lock pin does not align with the hole on the new tailgate. Not a huge deal again, but if you are using it in that config to contain a load you may want to double check the security of holding them in place.
Hope this helps!

The bed extender that was released beginning with the gen'12 (2009-2014) is the same bed externded for the gen'13.
