Default Bed extender

Hello All, new to this thread. recently upgraded from a 2007. I want to use my bed extender from my '07. I do not see that the mounting holes are threaded. This has me questioning whether it can be used or not. I saw a post on here were another person used his older bed extender because his holes were already threaded. Since my holes are not threaded, how would this work. How would I install the collapsible bed extender for a 2016 F150? Am I over thinking this. I remember the striker bolts from the '07 BE being mishsapped. almomst as if they were being tapped into the blank hole, but cannot remember if the 07 hole was threaded.

If I have to thread the hole what thread size would I use to make sure the 07 striker bolts would fit?

Any help is appreciated.

The holes on my 2020 weren't threaded when I swapped the extender over from my 2017. I just ran the bolts in with my 3/8" drive Dewalt battery powered impact and they are threaded now.

Mine weren't tapped either ('18 XLT). The bolts should be self tapping, but that information was spotty. I used my tap and die set and tapped it to be safe. Make sure you put some anti-seize or clear silicone on the treads to help prevent/slow corrosion. It you use the bolt lube it up with some WD-40 or cutting lube.

Hickmanfab, meaning the bolts for my '07 style should work in my '16?

Yes they should. But the safe way to play it is to use a tap with the same pitch as the bolt. That's what I did with mine. The "spot" where the bed extender mounts up to wasn't tapped. Basically a hole. I went ahead and threaded it with a tap. Been on there for 2 years and no issues.
