I just cut a 2x8 to length then a little paint. About an hours of work and under $15 - good enough for what I needed.

A 1x8 cedar board, two strap hinges, and a gate latch. $12.

I was looking at the bed divider as well but then saw the bed extender which as a divider in the secondary position and folds up as well. Does anyone have one of those? Care to share thoughts?

The extender splits in the middle and stores on the sides. It uses a rectangular block that twists 90 degrees to lock the two halves together. It uses a T50(this is a huge torx bit you'll probably need to buy) bolt as the pivot point and a plastic rod attached to a handle on each side to lock it in place either extended into or out of the bed. There is also a rod at the center where the halves connect that slides up and down. When it's extended over the tailgate that rod is suppose to drop into a hole on the backside of the tailgate. I'd imagine it gives it a bit more strength if anything were to slide into the extender.

The extender makes pressing the LED bed light button a real pain. It's a non-issue if you remember to press the one in the cab before you go back there. I do like "grocery mode" which is what it's actually called in the manual for when it's extended into the bed. You don't have to worry about stuff sliding into the way back of the bed.

I have an ATV so I ended up taking the extender out. My ATV fit into the bed with it stored on the sides but it's tight. I have a 6.5' bed so I can shut the tailgate with ATV loaded. The extender wasn't needed. I've seen people with the 5.5 bed use the extender to help secure an ATV. I'd imagine fit depends on machine so YMMV. The extender works with the Ford ramps. The plate that screws into the back of the tailgate to attach the ramps has the hole for the rod from the center of the extender. With the ramps stored on the box link rack the extender gets in the way. I store my ramps under the back seat.

The extender doesn't interfere with my bak revolver X2 cover when it's locked in either position, it's lower than the sides of the bed. You may run into issues if you are rotating it in/out of the bed. At most you'll need to separate the halves to make it clear. If you don't have a cover that extends into the bed a bit(talking about the locking arms) like the X2 it shouldn't be an issue.

At ~$300-350 it's a really expensive two pieces of plastic that can be useful or not depending on your needs. I got it since it was a lot cheaper to get it as an add-on when I ordered my truck vs. afterwards. It didn't hurt that I'm A-plan and that price break extends to the added accessories as long as they're on the order sheet. No dealer stuff.
