When you say rotate up. Do you mean rotate with the back/front of the shelf up or the left/right side?
Hmm it's kind of hard to explain. So basically, if you make the shelf as wide as the bed rails, the opening of the shell is narrower than the board will be.
So to get the board in place, you have to put the shelf in long ways, and then rotate it up into place once your inside the bed.
However in-order to do this, you need to cut one of the corners off a bit, since a rectangle will be wider measured corner to corner, vs from flat to flat.
Does that make sense?
In any case if you try to fit it without the rounded edge you'll see what I mean. Just know that rounding the edge will solve the problem when you run into it.

So I had a chance to actually run this setup through the Talledega National Forest Traverse last weekend and it went very well indeed.
The truck camping setup worked about as perfectly as I could have hoped for. It started raining in the morning, but the tarp kept me dry inside the topper and a small battery powered fan kept the air inside the topper fresh and cool with no condensation.
Boy is it nice to sleep on a foam mattress in the woods instead of a thermarest pad. It's also awesome to have a sheltered area behind the tailgate. The back of the truck is just a fantastic work area for cooking and just hanging out with folks.
My next step for the setup is to get a commercial grade pop-up canopy to replace the tarp. While the tarp setup is fully functional. It would be nice to have greater flexibility in terms of where I can set up camp, and have a larger free space around the back of the truck.
In other news, while the trails were not full of difficult obstacles, those we did encounter the truck handled with ease.
What are the orange skids you’re parked on? Sweet truck and some nice ideas. I’m hoping to finally get out and camp in mine this year. Was all excited to last year but a nasty back injury ruined that. Gave me plenty of time to brainstorm though
Nice set up. I'm 37 days away from my Lariat being delivered. I am going to do a full bed camper setup on it after it arrives. I will post pics after complete.
